Terms of Use

Last updated: July 29, 2026

These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your access to and use of the Unfold mobile application on iOS and Android and the website at unfoldbible.app (together, the "Service"), provided by Neil Broere ("we," "us," or "Unfold"). By downloading, installing, or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Unfold is a Bible reading plan, study, and journaling app. It includes a cycling reading plan, commentary, original-language word studies, video teaching, a journal, and an AI study companion called the Scribe. The Service is provided for your personal, non-commercial use.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service (16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, where that higher age applies). If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms.

3. Accounts

Some features require an account. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for activity that occurs under your account. Give us accurate information and keep it current. Tell us promptly at support@unfoldbible.app if you suspect unauthorized use.

4. Subscriptions, billing, and refunds

Some features require a paid subscription. Subscriptions are sold and processed by the app store you downloaded from — Apple's App Store on iOS, or Google Play on Android. We never see or store your full payment details.

  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current price for the same period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.

  • Free trials. If you start a free trial, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends to avoid being charged.

  • Managing and cancelling. On iOS, manage or cancel in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android, manage or cancel in the Google Play app under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

  • Refunds. Refunds are handled by the store that processed your purchase, under that store's policies — Apple for App Store purchases, Google for Google Play purchases. We do not control those policies and generally cannot issue refunds directly. Where local consumer law gives you a statutory right to cancel or refund, that right applies regardless of store policy.

  • Price changes. We may change subscription pricing. Changes apply to future billing periods, and we will give you notice and the opportunity to cancel before a new price takes effect, as required by the applicable store and by law.

  • Purchases are tied to your store account. A subscription bought through Apple cannot be transferred to Google Play, or the reverse.

5. License

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to install and use the app on devices you own or control — Apple-branded devices for the iOS app, and Android devices for the Android app — solely for personal, non-commercial use. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Your use of the app must also comply with the usage rules of the applicable app store, including the Apple Media Services Terms and the Google Play Terms of Service.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the Service except where that restriction is prohibited by law.

  • Scrape, harvest, or otherwise extract content from the Service in bulk, or use it to train a machine-learning model.

  • Use the Scribe or any other feature to generate or distribute content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, hateful, defamatory, sexually explicit, or that exploits or endangers minors.

  • Use the Service to abuse, deceive, or harm any person, or to violate any applicable law.

  • Interfere with the integrity, security, or performance of the Service, or attempt to access accounts or data that are not yours.

  • Share, resell, or commercially exploit your access to the Service.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate this section.

7. The Scribe

The Scribe is an AI study companion. Its responses are generated by a third-party large language model and are intended for biblical study and reflection. It is not a counselor, pastor, medical or legal professional, or crisis service, and it is not a substitute for any of them. Responses may be inaccurate or incomplete — always weigh them against Scripture and trusted sources. If a response is offensive or inappropriate, report it from inside the conversation; reports go directly to our team for review.

8. Your content

Journal entries, notes, highlights, and anything else you create remain yours. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, back up, transmit, and display that content solely to operate the Service for you. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained in routine backups for the period described in our Privacy Policy. You are responsible for the content you create and for keeping your own copies of anything you would not want to lose.

9. Third-party content and translations

Scripture displayed in Unfold includes third-party Bible translations such as the New American Standard Bible® (NASB), used by permission of The Lockman Foundation, and the King James Version. Use of those translations is subject to the rights holders' terms. You may not extract Scripture text from the Service for redistribution.

10. Intellectual property

Unfold, the Unfold name and logo, and all original commentary, teaching, word studies, audio, and video are owned by Neil Broere and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.

11. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account in the app at Settings → Account → Delete Account, or from the web at unfoldbible.app/support. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or use the Service in a way that creates legal risk or harms other users. Cancelling a subscription must be done through Apple or Google as described in Section 4. Sections 8 through 15 survive termination.

12. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the Scribe's responses are accurate or complete. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither Neil Broere nor Unfold will be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or goodwill arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim and twenty US dollars. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

14. App store terms

Apple

These Terms are between you and Unfold, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the app, including product-liability, regulatory-compliance, or intellectual-property claims. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any US Government restricted-parties list. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Google

If you obtained the app from Google Play, these Terms are between you and Unfold, not Google. Google is not a party to these Terms and is not responsible for the app or its content. Your use of Google Play is governed by the Google Play Terms of Service. Google has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app, and refunds for Google Play purchases are handled under Google's policies.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to that jurisdiction and venue. If you are a consumer resident in the EEA, the UK, or another jurisdiction whose law grants you the right to bring proceedings locally and to the protection of mandatory consumer-protection rules, nothing here removes those rights. Before filing a claim, please contact us — most issues are resolved quickly by email.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
